Yes, in addition to the Pool Frog System, you will also need water balancing chemicals to help fight and prevent algae growth. We would recommend purchasing the 8 Piece Pool Maintenance Chemical Kit with Test Kit since this kit includes all of the necessary chemicals needed to help maintain and balance your pH and alkalinity levels.
You can also use shock with the Frog System, however, it's typically not needed. At times when the pool looks slightly cloudy due to a heat wave or after heavy usage, you can simply increase the amount of chlorine output from your Pool Frog System by turning the dial up to a higher setting and run your filter system for longer cycles. This is essentially the same function as shocking the swimming pool.
